Whale and boats

Small boats occupy the surface; a whale fills the world beneath them. The difference in scale opens the illustration like a story told from two viewpoints. What is immense below becomes almost hidden above. Production markings preserve the image's working life, where this change of perspective took shape on an illustrator's sheet.
